University of South Alabama archivist featured in Mobile

Carol Ellis of the University of South Alabama archives on Springhill Avenue will be the speaker at the Oct. 9 meeting of the Mobile Genealogical Society.

The society’s website says  Ellis, using court cases and vintage photographs, will give a brief Power Point presentation “that demonstrates some of the connections held by Mobilians of old.”

USA’s archives are a sometimes overlooked but valuable resource for researchers. It’s photograph collections are outstanding, with approximately 1,000,000 negatives, slides, and prints. A check of the Erik Overbey photographic collection could yield a picture of an ancestor.

The MGS meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Vitale Room on the square immediately behind the Holy Family Catholic Church, 1400 Joyce Road in Mobile.
