Online at the Library of Congress: Alabama photos

Want to see pictures of old Alabama? Go to the  http://www.loc.gov/pictures – the online catalog of the Library of Congress‘ prints and photographs.

The website says only 75 percent of the 14 million item collection is online, but what a collection! There are groupings, such as baseball cards, Civil War photographs and stereograph cards, but even better is the searchable database.

A search for “Mobile, Alabama” turned up 1,154 items in the collection,  with pictures spanning from the 19th Century to 2010 and some individuals in some of the photos are identified.
