“Mobile Brass Band Traditions & Mardi Gras,” a presentation by Kern Jackson, with a performance by Marcus Johnson and the Bay City Brass Band will be presented at the Alabama Department of Archives and History on Thursday, Ju7ne 16.

  The lunchtime event is another in the ArchiTreats: Food for Thought series  continues another year of informative talks on Alabama History at the Alabama Department of Archives and History. This event is in conjunction with The Year of Alabama Music sponsored by the Alabama Tourism Department.

 Mobile, like New Orleans, has a rich brass band tradition, and Jackson, will discuss the history and contemporary function of brass bands in Mobile.

  Jackson is director of the African-American Studies program and an assistant professor of English at the University of South Alabama.

  The presentation begins at noon. Bring a sack lunch – coffee and tea will be provided by the Friends of the Alabama Archives.  For more information, call 334-353-4726.
