National genealogy conference in Birmingham this week

Preparations are underway for a major national genealogy conference  in Birmingham this week!

The Federation of Genealogical Societies is holding the four-day event Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.

About 900 people are expected to attend the conference, which your blogger will be attending and serving as a volunteer. We’re very happy to welcome everyone to the Magic City and hope you’ll have a great experience.

There will be a number of activities through the week, but one, an iron pour at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark, had to be cancelled due to poor weather expected when Tropical Storm Isaac makes landfall on the northern Gulf Coast.
